Watching a Meme Spread

Anyone else noticed an upward trend of non-monogamous relationships (useful buzzphrase for searching: "ownership paradigm" or "heteronormative" or "hetero-normative ownership paradigm")? Perhaps, its just the reading choices I make, and the associations I have, but it seems that this number is rising. I don't particularly think this a "bad" thing but I have noted: "Damn, I don't think I could do that kind of relationship." Yeah, I'm a bit of a romantic. So sue me.

Is this a "real" trend? If so, will it last or will it peak out and die off? Will it move into a status similar to what homosexuality/bisexuality has begun to attain? Specifically, I mean the idea that it is merely an alternative and no more or less correct than "the norm", monogamous heterosexuality. Thoughts?
